Definition
A Wheelchair User Group is:
A group of people who have received a wheelchair from the NHS Wheelchair Service
who meet regularly with service providers and other interested parties to discuss
ways of improving provision for wheelchair users.
Aims and Objectives
The group will be proactive on behalf of wheelchair users so as to obtain the
best equipment possible for service users while understanding the pressures
and constraints on the wheelchair service.
Roll and Function
For meetings with Kent NHS Wheelchair Service's and the
Kent Countywide NHS Wheelchair User Group.
a. To be a forum for communication
between service providers and users, enabling good information flow and user
feedback.
b. For wheelchair users to have a voice on the provision and development of
the wheelchair service.
c. For the group to assist in the monitoring and performance of the service
by co-ordinating feedback from wheelchair users.
d. To be involved in setting eligibility criteria.
e. To identify areas for improvement within the wheelchair service.
f. To work jointly with the wheelchair service on specific projects.
g. To be involved in finance monitoring to ensure best use of resources, budgetary
and other forward planning issues.
h. For wheelchair users to evaluate and test new wheelchairs.
Membership
1. Open to any wheelchair user who has been provided with a wheelchair from
their local NHS Wheelchair Service.
2. Community Care Manager, Wheelchair Centre Managers, Occupational Therapists,
Rehab Engineer and a representative from the Supply and Servicing Contractors.
3. Carers and Parents of wheelchair users.
4. Representatives from Disability Organisations with an interest in wheelchair
provision.
5. Additional observers/contributors with agreement of the group.
